  • What is hail damage?

Hail varies in shape, size, and speed. When these hard ice pellets strike your home, they can create various damage patterns. Severe hailstorms may cause granules to be stripped from shingles, puncture siding, or shatter glass. Less intense storms can soften shingles, chip or crack siding, and create water leaks from compromised exterior materials. These issues can put your family's comfort and safety at risk.
  • Do I need someone to inspect my home for hail damage?

We strongly recommend contacting a hail damage specialist for a complete home inspection. Many types of damage can only be identified by trained professionals. Ryan Roofing offers a no-obligation hail damage inspection and can advise you on the best course of action.
  • When is the right time to call a hail damage specialist?

You should call a hail damage specialist right away after your home is hit by a storm. This is particularly crucial if you carry insurance, as all damages need to be recorded and documented for your claim.
  • Do I still need a professional inspector even if I don't see any hail damage on my roof and siding?

Unless the damage is severe, hail damage to roofing and siding is extremely difficult to detect without a hail damage specialist. Hidden hail damage can be just as hazardous as visible damage. When hailstones impact your roof, they create soft spots where the outer granule layer becomes loose. As time passes, granules in these damaged areas will fall away, causing your roof to age and deteriorate rapidly. This applies to siding and windows as well. Delaying an inspection will only make the damage worse, so we recommend calling for an inspection right away.
  • Is hail damage covered by a manufacturer's warranty?

Most manufacturers, home builders, and contractors do not cover hail damage under their warranty.
  • What damages should I report to my insurance?

You should properly inform your insurance company of the complete extent of the damage so they can provide accurate compensation for all covered losses.
  • Will filing a hail damage claim raise my insurance rates?

Many people are surprised to learn that claims for acts of nature, such as hail damage, will not cause your insurance premiums to increase. Insurance companies view hail damage differently than incidents you can control, like a car accident. While insurance rates for your city, county, or state may increase overall, tornado damage, hail damage, and wind damage claims will not raise your individual rate since they are beyond your control.
  • Are claims filed by the policyholder less likely to be approved?

Insurance adjusters work for insurance companies and are responsible for minimizing claim payouts. While they will pay claims when clear proof of damage exists, they'll deny claims without definitive evidence of hail damage. Since most homeowners don't know how to identify and document these signs for the adjuster, it's beneficial to have one of our experienced roofers present. This ensures the hail damage is clearly identified and documented with the adjuster, improving your chances of claim approval. Factors like the angle, path, and direction of the hail matter, along with its size and speed. For homes with tall or high-pitched roofs, insurance adjusters typically only use binoculars to view damage, or they may use a ladder but don't examine the roof surface as closely as an experienced roofing professional would. Having an experienced roofing professional present during the adjuster's inspection can significantly improve your claim approval odds. We provide photos of not only the roof but also damage to vents, gutters, AC units, and siding. Our professionals use chalk circles to mark dings and dents, and we provide accurate dimensions and pitch measurements to ensure proper calculations for your roof's size and squares, guaranteeing you receive appropriate compensation for your claim.
  • Do you offer free inspections?

Yes, we provide free inspections. We don't examine roofs from the ground—our experienced roofers climb onto the roof and conduct thorough inspections for evidence of damage. We don't charge for inspections regardless of whether damage is found. While we recommend you remain on the ground for safety reasons and let our experienced roofers handle the inspection, we prefer you to be present during the process. We use cameras to photograph your roof and then review our findings with you safely on the ground. During a free inspection, we may not always find the hail damage you called about, but we sometimes identify normal roofing wear that needs attention before leaks develop, and we provide photographic evidence of our findings.
  • Can I file a claim if my roof isn't leaking?

Yes, you can file a claim even without a leaking roof. Most people don't realize there's only a limited window to file a claim for hail or storm damage after a storm occurs. If you wait more than 6 to 12 months until you actually have a leak, you'll likely miss your opportunity and face significant out-of-pocket costs. In most cases, hail damage won't cause an immediate leak, so waiting for a leak could mean it's too late to file a claim.
